Honnette named CEO King of the Beach
Winner of the inaugural CEO AVP Challenge
BOULDER, Colo.-September 21, 2009-CEO Challenges, the world leader in sport competitions for CEOs, has now added beach volleyball to the growing repertoire of world class competitions. The inaugural CEO AVP Challenge took place in conjunction with the Crocs AVP Best of the Beach tournament at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV on September 19. Luke Honnette, CEO of Big Biz Media Inc. in San Diego walked away from the two-day tournament with the title of CEO King of the Beach.
The King of the Beach format allowed CEO Challenges the opportunity to identify the best CEO Beach Volleyball players. With AVP pros as coaches for each team, eight CEOs played in 9 games to determine the top two players, who then played their championship match on Stadium Court in front of a crowd of excited spectators.
Jonathan Wade, CEO of Battea - Class Action Services in San Francisco went head-to-head against Luke, the youngest competitor in the competition. After the semi-finals, Jonathan was the number one seed, and chose fellow CEO Brent Berry of DWG & Associates as his partner. Luke chose to play with Nate Johnson of Reliam.
In what showed to be a very close competition, Luke won with a final score of 26-24. As an added bonus to his win, Honnette named the Challenged Athletes Foundation as his ‘charity of choice' for a $1,600 contribution from the AVP and CEO Challenges.
"The CEO AVP Challenge was just incredible," said Ted Kennedy, president of CEO Challenges. "This is the first event we have hosted for CEO beach volleyball players, and we are very excited to work with AVP for more events in the future. Every competitor had a great time, had some fantastic games on the courts, and it was a terrific final match. With every year, we add more sports to our calendar -- our events calendar truly has something for everyone."
CEO Challenges typically hosts 12-15 events each year for 100+ CEOs in many different sports. Next up for the company is the XTERRA World Championship in Maui at the end of October, and the season ends with a CEO Cycling Challenge with George Hincapie in his hometown of Greenville, SC in early November.
