By capturing the top spot for the CEO Challenge in Nice, Fischer, who finished in 11:59:42, qualifies for the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI, on Oct. 11. Fischer, of Erkrath, Germany, is a devout triathlete who started competing in triathlons in 1998. He has competed in 13 Ironman races.
Runner up Alvarez, of Tlalnepantla, Mexico, had already earned a slot in Kona from Ironman Wisconsin in 2007. Alvarez finished the Ironman France CEO Challenge in 12:29:36. Alvarez, an Ironman legend, has completed 54 Ironman races and is the only person in the world to have completed every Ironman venue worldwide.
Of note, a husband and wife team competed in the CEO Challenge. Vinnie Duncan of Auckland, New Zealand, bested her husband, Andrew Duncan, with times of 13:33:10 and 14:26:22, respectively. The Duncans own Duncan & Co Ltd., a venison marketing and exporting company based in Auckland. DCL that is the largest exporter of farmed venison to the United States.
Next up for CEO Challenges is Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid in July, Subaru Ironman Canada in August and the Aviva Singapore Ironman 70.3 in September. Spots are filling up, but a handful remain on a first-come, first-served basis for Canada and Singapore.
