Beall shatters the course record on Paris Mountain

There are 17,000 members of the Young Presidents Organization, and Sam Beall, Proprietor of Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, has proven to be the best YPO cyclist in the world!

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, Sam not only beat the other 9 competitors at the YPO Cycling Championship up the timed Paris Mountain climb, he obliterated the existing CEO Challenge record, and beat the next YPO member by over two minutes!

Sam’s time for the 2.2 mile climb, which has become famous as the biggest climb at the US Pro Cycling Championship each year, was 10:40.   The previous record was 12:18, set by Exit 41’s Joe Gagnon in 2008.   Second in the YPO Cycling Championship was Matt Litzler of C. A. Litzler Co., Inc. in 12:55, and third place went to Chris Wright of Affton Terminal Services in 13:48.

The YPO Cycling Championship was hosted by Tour de France star George Hincapie and CEO Challenges in Greenville, SC.   The weekend event included rides of varying distances that were led by George Hincapie throughout the beautiful countryside in upstate South Carolina, a personal tour of Hincapie Sportwear, and a private dinner reception at George’s fantastic new home overlooking the city of Greenville.

“We put on 10 – 12 events exclusively for CEOs every year, and I have to say that this is my favorite one,” stated Ted Kennedy, President of CEO Challenges.   “The participants always tell us how delighted they are with George – he makes the point of spending time with each person on the rides, is always making sure the group is together, and really opens up his life to us over the weekend.   It’s obvious that George loves this event almost as much as we do!”

This year marked the third time CEO Challenges has partnered with George Hincapie for a cycling event in his hometown the first weekend in November.   However, this year the event doubled as the YPO Cycling Championship, with the champion, Sam Beall, earning the title of Best YPO Cyclist.
