Binder of Comcast is 2007 Fittest CEO in the World

Scott Binder has earned the title of the 2007 Fittest CEO in the World by finishing first at the CEO Ironman Challenge World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on October 13. Binder, 45 and CEO of Comcast Colorado in Denver, beat out 12 other CEOs who earned their spot to Kona at one of six CEO Ironman Challenge qualifying events held around the world.

Binder swam the 2.4-mile Pacific Ocean swim in 1hour and 1 minute, biked the windy 112-mile ride in 5 hours 24, and ran the 26.2-mile marathon course through the scorching lava fields in 4 hours 23 minutes for a total time of 10 hours, 59 minutes, and 45 seconds. Charlie Komar, 48 and CEO / Owner of an intimate apparel manufacturing company in New York City, was second in 11:40.06, and John Klarer, 46 and CEO of natural gas marketing company Active Energy in Calgary, Canada was third in 11:44.08.

The CEO Ironman World Championship was held as a 'race within the race' at the Ford Ironman Championship. On a day when almost 20% of the professional athletes were forced to drop out of the race, including both of last year's men and women's champions, all 13 CEOs finished.

Ted Kennedy, owner of CEO Challenges, stated, "As usual with our CEO competitors, they found a way to finish despite the tough conditions and incredible challenges. Jene Popper had three flats on the bike ride, was forced to walk 3 miles carrying her bike on the scorching pavement before getting a replacement tire, and she still made the bike cut-off time. She never even considered dropping out, further reinforcing that the reason these people are CEOs is because they can handle whatever is thrown at them, and always find a way to accomplish their goals."

The CEO Challenge competitors were treated to a number of great perks race week, including a dinner with 2nd place finisher Samantha McGlone, training sessions led by Chris Legh (immortalized in Gatorade commercials after his near-death collapse in 1997), and the chance to get to know fellow CEOs from around the world that share passions for business and triathlon. Overall, 88% of the CEO competitors rated the program as 'exceeded or far exceeded my expectations', mostly due to the organization, race-day treatment of families, and opportunity to form new friendships with fellow CEOs.
