CHICAGO, IL -Record setting heat for early October made the 30th Anniversary of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon a day that will be talked about for years to come. But this unpredicted weather didn't stop eleven CEOs from posting great times as part of the inaugural CEO Marathon Challenge.
CEOs from around the U.S. were bested by David Eagar, a 47 year old construction company CEO from Hawaii, who ran a respectable 2:51:52. Eagar, who is the president and owner of DME Construction Inc., won the 40-49 age group division by over 27 minutes.
He was followed by Tom McFarland, CEO of California based C&D Zodiac (3:19:11), and in third was Bryan Webster, President and COO of Illinois based Webster-Hoff Corporation (3:25:41.)
Winner of the over-fifty age group was Illinois based Martin Slark, CEO of Molex (4:12:07). Lino Costales Jr., executive of American Home Care Express, won the under-forty division with a time of 4:30:40.
On a day when people were happy just to finish the marathon, all eleven CEOs completed the course in impressive times.
Ted Kennedy, President of Boulder, CO based CEO Challenges, remarked "Despite the difficult conditions, the CEO Marathon Challenge was a great success, and the CEO Challenge will definitely be back next year. All eleven CEOs have said that they will sign up for our program in 2008 because they know they can significantly improve on their times."
Even though the race conditions were less than ideal, feedback from the CEOs on the race, and the CEO Marathon Challenge, were all very positive. Tom McFarland agrees, saying, "I was treated like a king from the time I showed up, and met some quality people. Having Steve Jones as co-host of the event (Steve is the former marathon world-record holder who ran a solo 2:07.13 in Chicago in 1985) was a real treat as well. I don't think you could have picked a better setting for our CEO Awards Party (in one of the CEOs private homes downtown) to share war stories of the brutal race conditions."
The CEO Marathon Challenge is one of a number of sport competitions designed specifically for CEOs hosted by CEO Challenges of Boulder, CO. In addition to marathon events, the company also conducts CEO Challenges in Ironman, triathlon, driving, tennis, golf, and skiing. Each is designed as a first-class competition, with numerous networking opportunities, and lots of special treatment for the CEOs and their guests.
