SINGAPORE - September 8, 2008 - Dave Low, managing director for Honolulu-based Hawaii Capital Management, captured the AIG CEO Challenge at the 2008 Aviva Ironman 70.3 in Singapore yesterday. Low's winning time of 5:10 earned him a slot in the 2008 CEO Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, next month. In Hawaii, Low will join other CEO Challenges' competitors who have qualified to compete for the title of this year's "World's Fittest CEO®."
Low topped fellow CEO Challenges' competitor Mathew Wong, owner and CEO of PRIMA USA Limited, an apparel design and manufacturing firm based in New York City. Wong negotiated the course in 5:28. This is Wong's second CEO Challenges' event this year, after he finished the St. Croix Ironman 70.3 CEO Challenge in May.
Craig Kerr, CEO of PRTM Management Consultants based in Shanghai, was third at the AIG CEO Challenge 70.3 in Singapore in a time of 5:30.
"The CEOs that competed in the event in Singapore were very impressed with the course, the location, and the Ritz-Carlton host hotel," said Ted Kennedy, president and owner of CEO Challenges. "Unfortunately, two of the CEOs competing had to abandon the race (one had a flat tire, the other collapsed due to heat exhaustion), but Dave Low powered through and finished in a very quick time of 5:10. Now we'll see how he recovers in time for the CEO Ironman World Championship on October 11."
The Singapore course included a 1.9k open water swim, a 90.1k super all-expressway high-speed bike leg, and a shady beachfront 21.1k run segment. The course started and finished at the Playground @ Big Splash and wound through the downtown central business district and Singapore's East Park recreational area. The event drew more than 1,400 competitors overall from 51 nations, making this one of Asia's top Ironman events in just its second year.
Boulder, Colo.-based CEO Challenges is the world leader in sport competitions designed specifically for C-level executives. This year, the company will host almost 20 competitions specifically designed for CEOs worldwide. This CEO Challenge was sponsored by AIG Private Client Group.
Next up for CEO Challenges are the 2008 Muskoka Ironman 70.3 in Canada and the USA Triathlon Championship in Oregon later this month.
