David Kurtz - Shaw Electric Company (Livonia, MI)

David Kurtz is the CEO and Chairman of Shaw Electric, which recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. David is the third generation of his family to be involved with the business. Shaw Electric's strength is the ability to complete major construction projects without allowing disruption to existing operations.

In high school David ran track and cross country, but his real passion is roadracing motorcycles through the east coast and Canada. While he still has a passion for fast bikes his Litespeed bike gets ten times more miles than my motorcycle. David enjoys a variety of running, primarily 10K's and trail running with a few marathons thrown in along the way. He has also coached his children's soccer, obtaining his USSF D coaching license.

For David, triathlons have always been a family affair; he first got involved with the sport in 2004 because his daughter wanted to try it and wanted a training partner. Quiclkly climbing the distance ladder, a few sprints in 2004 became Olympic distance events in 2005, which then led to Ironman Wisconsin in 2006 and IM Couer d'Alene in 2007. His daughter Rebecca will also be participating in her first Ironman at Ironman Lake Placid! They will both be supported in Lake Placid by David's wife Jill and their son Michael.

David is looking forward to the CEO Challenge because of the other CEO participants -- triathletes as a group are some of the most optimistic people he has ever met and he's sure the same upbeat attitude exists among folks who run their own businesses. He's really looking forward to meeting this group.
