John Klarer - Active Energy ULC, Calgary, Alberta
Active Energy provides natural gas marketing and energy services to commercial and industrial users in Canada. In concert with his business partner, John manages the growth and development of the company as well as the day-to-day operations. John has always had an entrepreneurial background, and has been involved in energy marketing, services and trading for over 20 years since graduating from the University of Victoria.
John's triathlon history began two years ago with the Lanikai sprint in Hawaii, and he graduated in distance with each race, taking part in the Penticton Peach Olympic in 2005, the New Balance Half Ironman in 2006, and finishing Ironman Canada in 2006 in 12:09. He is not married and has no children, so, as he says, "I have quite a bit more time than some of my friends to pursue my triathlon dreams!"
As to why he signed up for the CEO Triathlon Challenge, John says, "It is nice to be able to meet other like-minded people with similar interests and goals. In a short period of time since doing my first triathlon I have made several life-long friends. Triathlon has given me tremendous rewards."
John earned his Kona slot at the CEO Triathlon Challenge in St. Croix, finishing the 70.3 distance race in 5:38.
