John Stobo - ABS Capital Partners (San Francisco, CA)
John Stobo is the Managing General Partner at ABS Capital Partners, overseeing the firm's investing and operating activities. Founded in 1990, ABS Capital Partners has established a strong track record for investing in later-stage growth companies. With $1.5 billion under management, ABS Capital helps companies choose the growth initiatives that build the greatest long-term value. ABS Capital has actively partnered with numerous portfolio companies to achieve successful outcomes, including over 40 initial public offerings and acquisitions by market leaders like CBS Corporation, EMC Corporation, LabCorp and Pitney Bowes Inc.
Since 1993, John has been involved in over 20 portfolio companies, with experience in the health care industry-investing in the space through periods of dramatic change and regulatory shifts. I have also been able to effectively leverage my understanding of the healthcare sector to help companies recruit relevant board members and executives, hone their business models, think about their competitive landscape and ultimately position themselves for an exit.
John has been involved with triathlon since 2003, and has done a dozen races, including a half Ironman. His first, however, was an Adventure triathlon, which consisted of kayaking, mountain biking, and train running. He has also done a marathon, and swum to San Francisco from Alcatraz 3 times. Doing an Ironman is in line with John's personal and professional way of life; things are achieved by setting lofty goals, then achieving them. He has inspired to do Lake Placid as his first Ironman after a CEO Challenge segment on CNBC several years ago. He will be supported by his wife Diana, and their 3 children, Remington, Samantha, and Berkeley.
