Mark Kelley - NextWave Broadband (San Diego, CA)

Mark Kelley is the CTO of NextWave Broadband.  NextWave is a technology company that develops, produces, and markets mobile multimedia and wireless broadband products.  Their products and technologies are designed to power wireless networks and devices that enable cutting-edge mobile multimedia and wireless broadband services and their customers include many of the largestmobile handset and wireless service providers in the world.  As the CTO of NextWave Broadband, Mark's focus is on technology development for network products.   Prior to joining NextWave in 2005, Mark was Chief Technical Officer of Leap Wireless (aka Cricket Communications).  Also, as a Director of Planning for Wireless Design Firm LCC, Mark had the honor of leading the design of the world's first GSM system in Germany. He also worked on military communication systems in the early and mid-1980s.

In high school, Mark had the dream to become a a pro bicycle racer. However, after a terrible crash in a criterium prior to my senior year in high school Mark switched to track and cross country.  Mark kept jogging through the years to keep in shape until work took over in the late 90s. To get back in shape in 2003 Mark started running again, but kept getting injured. So to balance it out he bought a bike and started doing triathlons. He has now done about ten half-ironman races (California, Wildflower, Honu), Ironman Florida a couple times and Ironman Germany last year.

Mark is supported by his wife, and their four daughters.  He signed up for the the CEO Challenge because " it looked like a good cause with others like myself that try to balance working hard with working out. Most of the events I participate in I find myself surrounded by men my age (47) who are "retired" and spend time working out and not all that much more. I wanted to meet and race with others that were crazy enough to try to do it all."
