Michael, in his own words, is a "reformed couch potato, having never run a mile prior to turning 32." In the next ten years, Michael completed ten marathons with a personal best time of 3:35 at the age of 38.  After a herniated disc injury, he recommitted himself to achieve the most that he could athletically.  This included a PR of 1:32 at the 2007 Pacific Shoreline Half Marathon and a PR of 5:07 at the 5430 Long Course Half Ironman. This year, just after turning 49, he achieved a lifetime goal of running a 5K in under 20 minutes with a time of 19:30 at the Harbor Foot Pursuit 5K.

Michael and his wife Sherri have been married for 26 years and she has always supported all of his endeavors. He says "without her support, there is no way I would enjoy the success I have achieved."  They have two daughters. Michael signed up for the CEO Challenge on the recommendation of Scott Binder, and is excited for another opportunity to race on the challenging course (he raced in the 2007 Nationals.)  He also wants an opportunity to qualify for Worlds in 2009.
