THE YPO / WPO TRIATHLON CHALLENGE

Who is the Fittest YPO Member, and which Chapter is the Fittest?

Objectives

  • Promote a fitness culture within YPO / WPO
  • Encourage, support, and guide YPO members who have a desire to try a triathlon, but don't know how to begin, or are daunted by the task
  • Strengthen relationships and bonds between members within YPO Chapters, and expose members to people in other Chapters
  • Identify the fittest YPO and WPO members
  • Identify the fittest chapters within YPO and WPO

The YPO Triathlon Challenge

  • The event will be hosted at the Boulder Sunrise Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in Boulder, CO
  • Two distances:  Sprint (750m swim, 17-mile bike, 5km run), and Olympic (1.5km swim, 26 mile bike, 10km run)
  • A large number of entries to the race will be reserved for the YPO / WPO Triathlon Challenge, and we will potentially have our own wave
  • The Challenge will be open to members of YPO, WPO, and their spouses
  • Each Chapter can enter as many athletes as they wish
  • At least one member from each Chapter must do the Olympic distance race
  • The times for the top Olympic finisher, plus four sprint finishers from each Chapter will be accumulated
  • Chapters will have five (5) minutes taken off their cumulative time for each finisher from their Chapter (i.e., the more finishers, the more time taken off!)
    • All finishers from each Chapter will be helping their team, regardless of their finish time
  • Awards will be presented to the:
    • Top 3 YPO male, top 3 YPO female, and top 3 WPO overall finishers
    • Fastest all-male team
    • Fastest all-female team
    • Fastest mixed team, and
    • Fastest age-based teams in 3 categories:

§  Cumulative ages of 250 and over, 200 - 249, and 150-199

o   Results awarded based on top five cumulative times, less time deducted for each additional finisher over five

  • Trophy to the Chapters with the most participants

What's Included in the Program

  •  Each person will be given a 16-week training program geared towards the beginner triathlete that will get you ready for the sprint distance triathlon.  Includes a fantastic walk to run training program by Lynn Kanuka (she prepares thousands of people each year to race their first 5k, with fantastic results!)
    • More experienced triathletes will have the option for personalized training designed to fit their travel, work, and family schedule
    • Will include various webinars on how to get started, what equipment is required (wetsuit, bike, shoes, etc), and injury prevention
    • Option to attend a 3-day camp in late April
  • 5-time world triathlon champion Simon Lessing's Boulder Coaching and CEO Challenges* will provide race-day support, advice, and expert guidance to all participants
  • Exclusive Awards Dinner with the Pros and memorabilia charity auction on Saturday night, including the biggest stars in the world of triathlon! The night will be hosted by cycling legends Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter, and invitees to the dinner will include:
    • 2x Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander
    • 4x Ironman World Champion, and world record holder for the Ironman distance triathlon, Chrissie Wellington
    • Ironman World Champion Tim DeBoom
    • 6 x Ironman World Champion Dave Scott
    • USA Triathlon Olympian Matt Reed
    • Airport limousine pickup, and transportation provided to and from the race venue
  • Bike mechanics build up, transport, and pack away bikes
  • A YPO / WPO competition triathlon racing top
  • An XTERRA Wetsuits triathlon transition bag, including a cycling kit from Hincapie Sporswear
  • A charity contribution to the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's will be made on behalf of each participant
  • A one-hour seminar on how to promote health & wellness in your organization
  • Trophies to members of the top teams in various categories
  • Pre race dinner at one of the most famous restaurants in the USA - Frasca Food and Wine!
  • Bragging rights for having the Fittest Chapter within YPO / WPO!

* CEO Challenges (www.ceochallenges.com) is the world leader in sport competitions for CEOs, hosted the first CEO Ironman Challenge in 2001, and has been hosting events exclusively for YPO since 2010.


Event Schedule

Friday, June 1

  • Arrive at Denver Airport (DEN), and be met by your limousine for transportation to the luxurious St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder
  • Pick up your assembled bike (assuming you shipped it to arrive earlier in the week)
  • 1:30pm - Bus departure for the Boulder Reservoir, site of the Sunrise Triathlon.    Packet pick-up, group swim, description of the transition layout, pre-race strategy presentation, and tour of the bike course.  Back to the St. Julien by 4:30pm
  • 5:15pm - Bring your bike to the CEO Challenge truck at the front of the St. Julien for loading and overnight transportation to the race site (note, your race number must be on the bike)
  • Walk or shuttle (1/2 mile) to dinner at Frasca Food and Wine restaurant (one the top ranked restaurants in the USA!) 
  • 5:30 - 6:00pm - Reception at Frasca.  Meet YPO members who will be competing for their Chapters, and the CEO Challenges / Boulder Coaching staff that will be looking after you all weekend
  • 6:00 - 8:00pm - Dinner, followed by walk back to the hotel
Saturday, June 2 - RACE DAY
  • 5am - Breakfast (private room)
  • 5:45am - Athletes transported to the Boulder Reservoir race site.   Bikes will be pre-racked by our staff, T1 and T2 gear will be laid out with bikes, bodies marked, and group swim warmup
  • 7am - First wave of the Olympic distance race
  • 7:15am - YPO wave of the Sprint distance race 
  • Guests of the athletes gather in the YPO Hospitality tent
  • Post-race - Athletes meet in the YPO tent for drinks and snacks
  • 10am - Awards
  • 11am - Transportation for athletes and bikes back to the St. Julien.   Lunch provided en route
  • Afternoon - bikes packed for transportation home (either airline or shipping)
  • 4pm - Health & Wellness presentation
  • 6pm - Dinner with the Pros and charity memorabilia auction.  Hosted by Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter, and featuring many of the top triathletes in the world.
Sunday, June 3
  • 8am - Breakfast OR take part in the Road 2 Victory Bike ride to benefit the Davis Phinney Foundation (http://www.road2victory.com/home/)
  • Pick up bike boxes or arrange shipping of bikes
  • Hotel checkout, and transportation provided to Denver airport

Must be a member of the Young Presidents Organization, the World Presidents Organization, or a spouse of a YPO or WPO member.
